Is it time to rethink your drink?

Too much sugar is bad for your teeth, and bad for your body. That's the message in the newest television ad sponsored by the Greater Portland Dental Society in cooperation with Let's Go!. View the ad at www.letsgo.org.

Thornton Academy High School students star in the ad that shows how much sugar teens often consume in a day. The ad focuses on the high sugar content in soda and energy drinks and highlights how quickly the amount of sugar consumed adds up over the day.

The television ad will air on WCSH6 throughout the months of September and October. Let's Go! is also highlighting sugar sweetened beverage information on their website at www.letsgo.org.

Trails Increase Physical Activity

With the help of some Let’s Go! Community Mini Grant Funds, residents of Falmouth, Freeport and Westbrook will be increasing their physical activity levels through the use of trails. Falmouth Conservation Corps continues to build and maintain local trails and increase volunteer participation in trail work. The Casco Bay Regional YMCA in Freeport's interactive family trail includes the StoryWalk concept. Finally, Prides Corner Elementary School in Westbrook, will be using their trail throughout the school year as a complement to their school health, physical education, science and language arts curricula. Trail building is a concrete and sustainable way to increase physical activity levels.

Let’s Go! is currently accepting mini grant proposals until October 1, 2009 at 5 pm. Click here to learn more about this opportunity.
