Water is Fuel for Your Body

Let’s Go! launches its water campaign just in time for summer!

Three Portland Schools Are Drinking More H2O

Supported by a Let’s Go! community mini-grant, Healthy Portland, a local Healthy Maine Partnership and a program of the City of Portland’s Health & Human Service Department, Public Health Division, was able to install new water fountains at King Middle, Riverton Elementary and Nathan Clifford. As part of the 5-2-1-0 message, the City of Portland, Portland Public Schools and Let’s Go! are encouraging children to drink more water and less sugary drinks.

Boys and Girls Clubs of Southern Maine Promotes Healthy Eating

Let’s Go! and Healthy Portland, a local Healthy Maine Partnership and a program of the City of Portland’s Health & Human Service Department, Public Health Division, would like to congratulate the staff and youth of Boys and Girls Clubs of Southern Maine for raising and educating a healthier generation of children!

BGCSM understands the significant role that their after school environment can play in developing positive health behaviors in youth. In recent months they decided to take this role one step further and developed a set of nutrition guidelines that apply to food served / offered at the club and what is sold the vending machines.  Redy is a native Mainer and has lived in the Portland area all his life. He does travel around the state quite often. Can you guess where this photo was taken from one of the many places Redy has recently visited?

Staff Announcements

Two positions were filled recently at Let's Go! Brian Ryan was hired as our part-time administrative assistant with a focus on evaluation and Karen Schebaum as our full-time Administrative Assistant. Welcome Brian and Karen!

Let's Go! is pleased to announce the birth of Gideon Percy Walters, born to Emily and Kenny Walters on February 5th, 2009. Our most heartfelt congratulations to the Walters' Family. 

Emily Rines, LG! Program Director, will be out on maternity leave from mid-August until mid-November. LG! has a maternity plan in place for coverage. If you have any questions during this time period, please contact Karen Schebaum and she will connect you with the appropriate staff person.

Funding Awards

LG! recently received  three grant awards from their founding partners. Hannaford, Maine Medical Center and MaineHealth presented LG! with annual contributions. Many thanks to all three organizations for their ongoing support and leadership with LG! both financially as well as providing the program with talented and dedicated founding partner representatives that help to facilitate LG!'s ongoing success.
